Qualcomm experimented a 5G test on a mobile which turned out to be successful. The Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem surpassed the 1GB/s in the download process. The 5G network connectivity will soon hit the market.
A year back, the Snapdragon X50 modem supported 28GHz millimeter wave frequency. It was a test conducted by the company.
In the recent test done the mobile reached more than 1GB/s. However, the company claimed that when the specifications of the 5G are fixed, the Snapdragon X50 will reach up to the rate of 5GB/s.
For the experiment, Qualcomm developed a smartphone like a modern handset with an “Infinite screen”. It is just a referral design, which will act as a base for manufacturers to make models with technology.
Qualcomm even created a millimeter wave antenna for the modem to work in the desired way on the smartphone. The antenna is of a size of a small coin. Two antennas can be fit in the same handset. The giant chipmaker is planning to reduce the size of the antenna by 50% in a year.
The handsets which will feature the Snapdragon X50 5G will most probably launch in the first half of 2019. The 5G handsets along with 5G network together will attain great speed. It will also be compatible with 3G and 4G networks.
