At Mobile World Congress Qualcomm launched the new mobile platform Snapdragon 700 series. This is designed to offer features that were once exclusive to the premium Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Mobile platform. The new series also includes the on-device AI that is supported by the Qualcomm AI Engine. Despite the tough competition from the other manufacturers like Samsung and Huawei, Qualcomm is essentially the best chipset manufacturer in the smartphone market.
The previous Snapdragon 600 series offers higher performance when compared to the popular MediaTek platform. Along with this series, the company also announced Snapdragon 5G module solutions. It further specified its partnership with Asus in order to integrate RF-front end Modem to antenna solutions into the upcoming Zenfone smartphones.

Qualcomm 700 mobile platform can fill in the gap between Snapdragon 600 series and 800 series SoC’s. It is intended for budget smartphones and focuses mainly on the Artificial Intelligence. Qualcomm further claims that the new series also offers enhancement in the camera feature and overall device performance. It is further holds Qualcomm Spectra ISP, Kryo CPU, Hexagon Vector Processor and Adreno Visual Processing subsystem.

All the products with Qualcomm 700 platform come in with multi-core Qualcomm AI engine that can deliver two times more performance than the Snapdragon 660 SoC. The new architecture included works collaboratively to learn Voice and Speech thus enhancing the ease of clicking pictures and recording videos. It can further handle all those on-device AI applications by enhancing the battery life without any change in the applications or settings.
Thanks to the Qualcomm Spectra ISP that allows you to capture all those memorable events irrespective of the conditions. You can even expect a multitude of additional camera features along with the high-end specs in the Qualcomm 700 series platform.
Performance and Battery
The new architecture of the latest mobile platform includes Spectra ISP, Kryo CPU and Adreno Visual Processing subsystem that can enhance the power efficiency up to 30 percent. It even offers better battery life and performance than the Snapdragon 660 processor. The products with 700 series SoC also benefit from Quick charge technology that can charge the device to 50 percent in 15 minutes.
As for the connectivity, the new Snapdragon 700 SoC’s will feature “an advanced set of wireless technologies” along with the ultra-fast connectivity features. This includes ultra-fast LTE, enhanced Bluetooth 5 and advanced carrier Wi-Fi features.
It will take a while until we see the line up of devices running on Snapdragon 700 series platform. The commercial samples may be available in the Q2 of this year.
