Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus Launched With Dual Aperture Camera And AR Emoji

Samsung Unveils the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus on February 25 at the “Unpacked” event in Barcelona. It highlights the device new features such as dual rear camera, AR-powered Emojis and stereo speakers. Out of which the re-invented camera feature can be a game changer for the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. These handsets may hit the market by March 16.

Both the variants share the same look and feel with a glass front and rear, metal frames, curved edges, wireless charging and more. The key difference is the 12MP dual rear camera that boasts the first variable aperture system. Talking about the dual aperture camera system, the company claims that the camera can perform better in low-light conditions. Furthermore, it even provides a shallow depth of field for those pleasing Bokeh effect shots. It further made sure that there is no negative impact on the daylight photography.

The South Korean giant also developed a system that can shoot 12 photos of three groups and later combines them at the pixel level to wash out the noise and boost detail. The new super slow-motion feature lets to record videos at 960fps. It can even turn that 2milliseconds video into a six seconds recording. Other high-end smartphones like Apple iPhone X can shoot videos at 240fps. Along with the first dual aperture camera, Samsung also added animated AR emojis feature. It works similar to Bitmoji that maps the facial expression to the cartoon.

It also improvised the facial recognition and Iris scanner system for better security. Moreover, both these bio-metric system can be used simultaneously at the same time. Unlike the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 that have the fingerprint scanner beside the camera, the scanner now sits below the camera module.


As for the other specs, the Galaxy S9 has a 5.8-inches AMOLED display and S9 Plus has 6.2-inches display on-board. The 12MP rear camera has dual aperture lens that can shift the aperture from f/1.5 to f/2.4 based on the environmental conditions. Galaxy S9 Plus is further given an additional 12MP telephoto camera lens with f/2.4 aperture. On the front end, there is an 8MP auto-focus camera for selfies and video calling. Both the devices ship in with Android 8.0 Oreo. As for the processor, they run on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. It is paired with 4GB of RAM on S9 and 6GB RAM on S9 Plus. They will be available in different storage variants- 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. While the price still remains undisclosed, we expect the Samsung Galaxy S9 price in UAE to be around AED 3071.
