Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime vs. Redmi 3s Prime

An Overview

Launched at an event in China, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 was released to replace the Xiaomi 3s Prime. So the Redmi 4 series can be labelled as the successor of the very popular Xiaomi 3s Prime series. Both the smartphones stand out in their features, however, it is hard to decide which set is better than the other. Here is a comparison of the two, in terms of design, processing, and all other features, for a better idea:

Available in three choices of colours; silver, dark grey, and gold, both the smartphones bear a metal unibody design that sets them a class apart, especially when they come in these three colors. While both the phones seem similar in design owing to their body, their finish in terms of edges differ. With a look similar to the previous versions, the Redmi 3s Prime sports rounder edges, while Redmi 4 has flatter sides that are bordered by chamfers, and the composition continues with a curve on the rear.

Display, Size and Weight

The display size of both the phones is 5.0”, however the Redmi 4 Prime weighs more than the Redmi 3s Prime. 3s Prime’s weight is 144g while Redmi 4 Prime’s weight is 156g.  Moreover, supported by IPS LCD, the Redmi 4 Prime has a 1080 x 1920p resolution offering 441ppi pixel density, while Redmi 3s Prime has a lower resolution to offer that is 720 x 1280p with pixel density up to 294ppi. So without any need of an analytical overview, the Redmi 4 Prime takes the lead here. However, the features of Redmi 3s Prime are also not bad for the price it offers.

Storage and RAM

The specifications in terms of Storage and RAM have more similarities than differences. Both the smartphones have 3GB of RAM along with an internal storage of 32GB. Moreover, both the devices allow the use of external microSD card up to 256 GB, along with an additional second SIM. However, the difference is in the processor. While the Redmi 4 Prime runs by a SnapDragon 625 chipset, the 3s Prime runs on a SnapDragon 430 Chipset.

Camera Features

The camera is now considered as one of the most important features in a phone. Both the smartphones support a 5megapixel selfie shooter, along with the option of video shooting in HD. The difference, however, is seen in the camera specifications. While both the phones have a 13-megapixel rear shooter, the Redmi 4 Prime has an f/2.2 aperture lens, and the Redmi 3s has f/2.0. So Redmi 4 takes the lead in camera.

Other features include face detection, autofocus, and single LED flash, along with fingerprint scanners on the rear panel.

There is no difference in the battery power and size. Both the phones are packed with a battery pack of size 4100mAh which allows the phone to charge quickly, and run for a longer period of time, as compared to Xiaomi’s previous versions.
